I’m Kathryn Eyring, your Health and Empowerment Coach… but today I’m talking about how YOU can be your own coach.
The following is a strategy to coach yourself through change or dissatisfaction with yourself:
1.) Go to the high level
Look at yourself like you are GOD. You actually ARE God. If God is everywhere, he is within you, right? So, take a look at yourself from above, to see yourself from a different perspective. You’re not going to call yourself names now… or berate yourself. You don’t expect God to do that to you, so don’t allow yourself to do that either. Put on your God-self.
2.) Objectively assess your situation
I suggest you even speak it out loud. There is a person who… Describe yourself. This person has been unhappy lately. This woman isn’t looking at the beauty around her. This man has been overeating. This person hasn’t gone to the gym or out for a walk. She’s not living an active life. He hasn’t been social enough. He’s alone too often. Is this person really a BAD person? No! This person just needs to make some changes.
3.) Ask yourself some questions
A good coach asks a lot of questions. I can’t help you get to where you want if you don’t know what you want. So…
What do you want more of? And, what do you NOT want in your life?
Here are the questions I ask of myself every day:
Am I doing my best to eat healthy foods? Stay hydrated? Exercise and stay active? Keep my mood and emotions elevated? Learn and try new things? Connect to God? Ask for divine guidance? Believe in my capabilities?
You could also ask yourself: Do you know other people who have been in your situation who have successfully made changes? Do you BELIEVE people can change? Do you BELIEVE that YOU CAN CHANGE? What would it take for YOU to believe that YOU can change?
4.) What are you doing well?
What if you only looked at your bright spots for a moment? What are you doing well? When you are feeling great about yourself; what are you doing at that moment? When are you smiling? When are you eating well? When are you being kind to yourself?
How can you make THOSE moments happen again?
5.) Make a plan for moving forward
How can you shape your environment so that you think, feel, and behave the way you really want?
Here’s where your habits come in. Either you control your habits or they control you. Overeating and exercise – both habits. Nail-biting and staying well-hydrated – both habits. Brushing your teeth and tying your shoes – both habits.
What will you do to DISRUPT the habits that are no longer serving you?
What will you do to bring in new information, support, community, and ease into the habits that you DO WANT?
6.) Don’t quit
That’s the only way to fail.
Oh, but Kathryn, you don’t understand… Oh, but I do understand.
You lost 10 pounds, then gained back 12. So, you quit? NO!
You used to go to the gym 3 times a week but then you stopped. NO!
You used to use a gratitude journal but then didn’t continue. NO!
You CANNOT quit. That’s the only way to fail.
You have the ability, responsibility, and opportunity to make changes in your life! YOU ARE ALIVE!
Within you is your own personal coach and best friend that is prompting you to move forward. Listen to that voice!
Of course, I could write a book on each of these topics. Well, in fact, I guess I did… in the modules of the Inspired Vitality Course.
Some people ask me how they will know if they’re READY to start making changes.
Well, I can help you with that, too. Set up a 15-minute appointment and I’ll walk you through some questions that will help you know if you’re ready or not. I use these questions regularly anyway because I don’t want to coach someone who isn’t READY to make big changes!
